We can argue this all day...but none of us will be here a million years from now to see who is right...really, it doesn't matter to me...but I prefer things I can see to stories and myths that hold not one shred of proof.

The electrical introduced theory has been used seriously. You are probably correct in saying that it isn't the accepted theory today.
So drop the lighting and you still have the same theory that takes the same leap of faith.

It's not a faith...it is just a logical observation...we are nowhere close to explaining the secrets of the universe...we can't get past the dimension of space...we still say it is nothingness...so if we can't even understand our own universe we will never understand our origins either.

To believe in the chance happening of the universe that cannot be proven does indeed require faith, because you know as well as I that the chance of spontaneous generation happening, and not only once but it would have to have happened MANY times is impossible. We both also know that by the same rules of probablility that these scientists use the chances of one instance of spontaneous generation happening and then being able to survive for millions of years slowly evolving are more than astronomical.
To give an example of what Carl Sagan and other evolutionaries thought about spontaneous generation, in science if the chances of something happening is greater that 1 in 10 to the 50th power it is considered impossible. Sagan himself, among others, have stated the possibility of spontaneous generation even happening once is 1 in 10 to the 2 billionth power! So they don't even believe what they themselves preach!
First and foremost, I'm glad that we can have this discussion without saying YOUR AN ATHIEST! you HAVE to believe this to be a Christian.
but anyway---I think you can believe in evolution as much as you want, because like someone else said there are still gonna be cracks. Thats where faith and religon comes in.
I think all species one way or another compete for survival. Now overtime (thousands of years) will a species gradually evolve (kinda like yankeesbaseball said with athletics-how competition has gradually gotten better and better)? Or will
there be a puncuated equilibrium? Where you have years and years of the same stuff happenin over and over and then suddenly something happens and changes things forever (think Babe Ruth in baseball)?
As far as chimps go, they have 99.9% the same genetics as we do(More than just one gene difference, but close enough).
Carl Sagan is as full of crap, spontaneous generation was disproved 150 years ago back when it was referred to as Lamarkism. There needs to be an origin.
The experiment with water and lightening had been done within the last 50 years, I think one of the guys used ammonia or something like that.

Nor are we meant to understand or be able to explain the secrets of the universe. You may think you were "evolved" and have a close relationship to a chimp, but I'm about as closely related to a chimp as I am a Martian. I am a direct decendent of Adam, who God created from the dust of the earth (That's the only thing we have in common with any fellow creature, our creation by the Creator!). As far as "like DNA" goes, it may start out with bread, but it's the meat that makes the sandwich.
Our origins are simply explained, and just as I am amazed that man, in his finite, underdeveloped self, can create something as amazing as an automobile or a computer chip, I am superbly amazed that God in His infinite, perfect Self can do anything! "Therein is the lesson."
